How to pre-order Steam Deck? If you are one of the gamers wanting to have this amazing handheld gaming PC on your hands, follow the steps below.

Pre-orders for Valve’s Steam Deck handheld gaming PC are now open, but getting your hands on the new device may be difficult due to Valve’s anti-reseller measures.

If you missed yesterday’s announcement, Valve describes Steam Deck as “the most powerful, full-featured gaming handheld in the world.” You can access your entire Steam library while on the go, as well as stream video content, browse the web, and install and access other PC software.

If the Nintendo Switch OLED reveal did not impress you, or if you simply want more ways to play through your Steam backlog, you can find out how and where to pre-order the Valve Steam Deck below. It’s not as simple as you might think.

Valve Steam Deck Release Date

All three versions of the Valve Steam Deck will be available to customers in the UK, EU, US, and Canada in December 2021 (no specific date has been provided). Outside of these areas, the device is expected to be released in 2022 in other countries.

You can reserve the Steam Deck directly from the Steam website today (Friday, July 27) at 6pm BST/1pm EST/10am PDT. Reservations are limited to one per customer and come with a $5 fee that is deducted from your total purchase when you place your order for the device.

If you’re the type of person who requires constant reminders to do things, you can also go to the website right now to set up a handy reminder email. If you missed out on pre-ordering the device, the $5 will be added to your Steam balance.

How to Pre-Order Steam Deck

It should be noted that this is not your typical, straightforward pre-order process. Take note of the wording reserve rather than pre-order. Making a reservation for the Steam Deck does not guarantee that you will be able to purchase it.

At the time of writing, no other retailers are selling the Valve Steam Deck, but we’ll update this page with links and pricing information for other stores as they become available.

The reservation system adds you to a queue, and Valve will contact you when Steam Deck stock becomes available for purchase. You’ll be contacted based on when you made your reservation, so if you really want one, make those reservations as soon as possible.

While reservations for the Steam Deck are now open, you’ll only be able to make one in the first 48 hours if you made a purchase on Steam before June 2021.

If you don’t already have a Steam account, you’ll have to wait until Sunday to make reservations, which will push you further down the queue.

Demand for the Steam Deck is expected to exceed supply, and this measure is intended to prevent resellers from purchasing bulk copies of the handheld device to resell at inflated prices.

Your Steam account must also be in a valid region. At the time of writing, these are the United Kingdom, the European Union, the United States, and Canada. If you live outside of these areas, check out Valve’s FAQs.

Price and Variants of Steam Deck

The Valve Steam Deck is available in three different models, with prices ranging from £349/$399 to £569/$649 for the cheapest version, which includes 64GB eMMC storage. The performance of all three models is the same, with Valve CEO Gabe Newell admitting that pricing the Vale Steam Deck has been difficult due to its specifications.

The next model up includes faster 256GB SSD storage, a carry case, and a Steam community profile bundle for £459/$529, while the most expensive model includes 512GB SSD storage, anti-glare etched glass, and an exclusive virtual keyboard theme, as well as the carry case and community profile bundle.

Make sure you’ve given some thought to which version of the Steam Deck you want. After you’ve made your reservation.

Steam Deck Specs

The AMD APU processor with a quad core Zen 2 CPU and an AMD RDNA 2 GPU with 8 compute units powers the Steam Deck. There is 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM, and all models of the Steam Deck include a high-speed microSD slot. There are no other performance differences between the models.

We anticipate that comparisons with the Nintendo Switch will continue for some time. The Steam Deck has a 7-inch touchscreen display and an official dock (sold separately) for video output to monitors, televisions, and other devices.
