Knowing how to catch a Ditto in Pokémon Go can give you many advantages! There are numerous reasons to catch a Ditto. Ditto even shows up as a task in the ‘A Mega Discovery’.
The only problem is finding one! Ditto disguises itself as various different Pokémon, and you can’t know until you catch one! Furthermore, Ditto can’t be hatched from an egg either so your only option is to catch one in the wild.
Here’s a simple guide on how to catch a Ditto in Pokémon Go and save your time!
Ditto in Disguise
As mentioned before, Ditto will never appear as it’s true self so the trick is to find the Pokemon it often disguises itself as. While there’s no official list present, there is an unofficial list created by trainers who have come across this elusive Pokémon.
The list itself changes on a monthly basis, but here’s the updated list of Pokémon who may turn out to be Ditto:
It’s all about luck and chance but you’ll know the second you’ve caught a Ditto. Rather than take you to the Pokémon’s page, your process will be interrupted by a screen that simply says Oh? After that you’ll see your Pokémon transform into Ditto!
Check Your Radar
Now that you know which Pokémon hold the key to catching a Ditto, it’s best to keep an eye out for those target Pokémon on your radar. While most of the Pokémon are fairly common in the wild, your radar will still be a good indicator especially when you’re on the hunt for Ditto!
Lures and Incense
While you can’t catch a Ditto through hatching an egg, you can still catch one using both Lures, or Incense. If you’re in a spot with the right Pokémon, crack open a Lure or an Incense to target the listed Pokémon and grab a hold of that Ditto!
Talk to Other Players
Unlike Shiny Pokémon which spawn randomly, normal Pokémon, including Ditto can be found inside a set Pokémon spawn. This means that if a player has caught a Ditto in an area, odds are you’ll find one in that exact same spot too!
In this case, subscribing to a Pokémon GO community on Facebook or Discord will be your best bet! Asking other trainers to keep you updated on Ditto sightings will definitely improve your chances of catching it. But remember to get there fast because these spawned Pokémon don’t stick around there for too long!
Once you’ve successfully caught a Ditto, you should definitely take it to the gym at least once! Using a Ditto in battle transforms it into its first opponent’s form. Ditto also takes on the opponent’s moves but maintains its own CP. Sounds pretty cool, doesn’t it? But remember, it only changes its form once for the first Pokémon it encounters so you’ll be stuck with that one for the full gym battle! Best to choose wisely!
